The first time I heard of The School of Life was when I was following one of my favourite writers, Alain de Botton, on social media. Then, I found out their website and to my surprise, there was a physical address too, in central London. Wow!
But don’t think it’s just another little corner bookshop in London town. Behind this entrance, there are some great ideas indeed. And the concept of a “school” in this business is nothing but traditional.
It’s a place for thinkers, to appreciate philosophy and study with pleasure. The courses, classes and lectures available at The School of Life are related to subjects that will take you out of your comfort zone.
From a simple relationship conundrum to career advice, it can work as a mini-therapy session with a bit of fun – i.e How to realise your potential; How to think more about sex (which is also a book); How to communicate better in your work; or How to write better.
The other half of School of Life consists in a charming bookshop, a very interesting one where you can find a range of intellectual books, mostly about philosophy. Every time I visit London, I bring back a new book from this bookshop. It’s definitely a place for thinkers to challenge some preconceptions that may need to be changed.
I’m not quite sure what The School of Life exactly is about but it’s one of my favourite spots in London and it’s definitely necessary to visit the place sometimes. Using a bit of philosophy, I know what I know and what I don’t know and it’s always a necessity to get more knowledge, anyway.

Hi! I’ve been looking through your website after coming across you on a Facebook thread. Came across this post and it intrigues me massively. I want to visit this place. I will be searching online tonight to learn more. I love the idea of this place, there needs to be more like it.
