The Hideaway cottage, Cornwall

Quirky accommodations in Britain : I was looking for a cottage in south west Cornwall for a perfect city escape when I heard about The Hideaway glamping pod.

Glamping pods are quite popular accommodation nowadays but they can also become a bit of nightmare if they’re not well planned from inside and outside. At the same time I thought it could be very adventurous to spend one week in a “hobbit” habitat.

Luckily, as soon as I stepped in the village of Perranuthnoe, where The Hideaway is located, I knew it would be the perfect hidden spot for a well-deserved holiday.

This glamorous pod is located in a remote site at the Dubban Farm, keeping your total privacy preserved. At the same time, it’s only a short walk away from to the beach, some cafés and the only pub at Perranuthnoe.

But it was inside that the pod impressed me most. I was quite surprised with the ample space of its facilities that can accommodate four people comfortably. It’s a very clever use of the space and although it looked small from outside, we didn’t feel claustrophobic at all.

The cottage is equipped with everything that would be necessary to make your glamping experience unforgettable; Wifi, comfy beds and hot shower. And I would say it has much more that you would expect, from the iPod dock station to the washing machine and a huge barbecue outside. It’s just a perfect way of being in the middle of nowhere but with a bit of comfort.

If you want to chill there is a TV set available in the cottage, but the owners Andrew and Lisa, made it clear that if we wanted a complete taste of “camping”, they could remove the appliance from the pod. That was actually just one example of how nice and caring they are with the guests.

We actually had fresh strawberries coming straight from their farms as a treat during our stay and that was just a great touch.

During the night the pod seems cosier than expected. If the weather is okay, you can enjoy the space outside to stargaze and have some al fresco drinking and dining.

There is not much noise around the cottage, apart from the usual night buzzing from nocturnal animals, which was quite peaceful indeed.

In the morning, try the footpaths, which are quite appealing in both directions, whether going to Prussia Cove, Praa Sands and Porthleven or exploring the outstanding beaches on the way to Marazion and Penzance. It’s a moment to realise how beautiful that part of the world is and how lucky we are for finding excellent Wadebridge cottages in Cornwall.

There is no excuse for not exploring the stunning area but if you just fancy chilling in the garden, it’s great to put the barbecue on and enjoy the sunshine on the terrance during the afternoon.
