The Black Country is the part of the West Midlands that has fundamental importance to the development of the Industrial Revolution and world’s history. But if your knowledge of history is not that updated, nothing can be more effective than a real experience back to the past.
Luckily, The Black Country Living Museum does it for you and in a magnificent air open experience, I would say!
Located in the heart of Dudley, The Black Country Living Museum is an inspiring place for families.
The largest air open museum in the country is definitely a very pleasant experience to explore how life back to the 1830’s used to be. A journey of life during the Industrial Revolution is portrayed exactly how it was in this built village with “real” character.
Trying some fish & chips from a shop back to 1930 and visiting a traditional pub from that period are very popular attractions in the place. Visiting shops, houses, pubs and workshops where you can have a proper chat to “people from the village”, it’s a great way of discovering the Industrial Britain and its way of life. Definitely, a very educational and funny experience for the kids to learn and have fun at the same time.
The best bit of this trip to the Black Country Museum was the boat trip thorough the Dudley Canal. It’s a fascinating journey through the tunnel where cargo used to be carried in the area. Unfortunately, the ticket is not included in the visit to the Black Country Museum itself but it worth paying a bit more for this experience as well.
Preserved by the Dudley Canal Trust, this site inside the Black Country attracts over 80,000 visitors every year.
Important tips: As a proper day out, it’s highly recommended to start your visit early in the morning. It takes a while to walk around the museum and it’s usually very popular during the summer and sunny weekends. Some big queues are always expected. Wearing some comfy shoes and bringing along plenty of water is a good idea also.
