I have been to Edgbaston in one of the hottest day of the year in July (those single days where you can feel “summer was here”), to make the most of it and enjoy a nice meal at The High Field. I visited the place before to fetch some cocktails with my other half and I was very impressed with the drinks and service over there.
As I heard food was quite good as well, of course, I went back for more.
Located at the hotspot of Edgbaston, right in front of the Michelin-starred Simpsons, the modern facilities of The High Field go really well with its building features. Modern, elegant and full of character. Yes, I also love that pig in the entrance.
The concept has the credits of The Peach Pubs that is responsible for the concept of some charming pubs around the country like this one in Edgbaston.
And I never have noticed how spacious The High Field is. We have picked a table right in the middle of the pub, halfway to the entrance and with a beautiful view of the beer garden. What a garden, by the way. Picking a table outside that day would be also a good idea. The weather was just perfect for some al fresco time.
Fresh food was also my request for the day. So as for starters, I decided to try some Salt Beef Croquettes with picked red cabbage & English Mustard mayonnaise. Something light, refreshing and extremely well-presented, by the way. Cabbage can besomething a bit blend sometimes, but not this one. This one was well-seasoned. And crunchy croquettes the way it has to be!
As for the mains, I kept my healthy course, choosing a meal I was really curious about: Superfood Salad of Sesame with crusted Broad Bean Falafel & Summer Veg, Mint Yoghurt & Hot Sauce. I do love falafels and I have to say there is something about that hot sauce that made me crave for more. Really nice main and another beautiful presentation to show off here!
Cocktails should always be in the list of things to do when you visit The High field too. They have their hearts on it, for sure! So Marmalade Mule, Disaronno Sour and the special one of the day Black Forest Daiquiri were the picked ones. The last one was a special treat for the day. Lovely variety of cocktails is always a good thing, especially because not everything in the Summer has to be related to Pimm’s.
For puds, I got something that I have never tried before: Rice Krispy & Mango Cream Parfait. Perfect indeed! I confess I could carry on the drinks if I didn’t have to work the next day. But The High Field is there for more. Another great place to eat, drink and contemplate the good (or not) weather in Birmingham.
