What I Ate Wednesday | Artisan pizza at Alicia’s Micro Bakehouse

It’s just a great feeling when you are invited to join friends for a casual meal in a place you never heard about it before, but it looks promising anyway.

We all heard that Stirchley is the up and coming area of South Birmingham that everyone wants to be out and about.

There are excellent bars, restaurants, cafes and shops in the area, and it is not a surprise that Alicia’s Bakehouse is placed there too.

This independent artisan pizzeria is completing its first anniversary today (If I am not wrong) and I was delighted to visit the place with my friends, for the first time, last night.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into this little gem. It’s a really cosy and inviting place to go for a casual dinner.

We were warmly welcomed by Neus, a quite friendly Brazilian that let any comfortable even before finding us a table. She made our night with smiles and excellent service. It’s always good to go somewhere in Brum where we can speak Portuguese and feel a little bit back home.

The place wasn’t packed, but I have noticed most of the tables were already reserved for later. We were lucky to find a place, but I think it’s better to book in advance next time I decide to visit it.

The big deal at Alicia’s is the pizzas. Its menu is varied with lots of options for vegetarians (Yay!) and even a sweet one with Nutella. kids will love it!

I don’t think if it’s a type of pizza easily found here, but doccie pizzas are popular in  Brazil. It’s great to know that Alicia’s menu is “out of the box”.

They also have a good selection of wines, soft drinks and craft beers such as Birmingham Brewery Company ones. Lovely!

I have decided to go for the Rucola (rocket) with mozzarella and parmesan. You have the option to add extra toppings to your pizza as well. The order was placed quickly and we didn’t need to wait too much.

My pizza was simply delicious! There were lots of flavours in the combination of rucola, mozzarella and parmesan as well, and I totally recommend ask for a bit of olive oil to drizzle on it.

They have a lovely homemade olive oil with garlic that I would love to buy and brink back at home, by the way. I can also honestly say that it was the best dough I ever tried in Birmingham. It’s light and fresh and tasty.

I didn’t ask for dessert but my friend Helena just had and lovely Amaretto cheesecake.

Seriously, having an individual size pizza and a small bottle of beer for 12 pounds in a lovely ambient where good music and great vibe are also guaranteed, is a win-win! Please, book your table at Alicia’s now!
