Vegan Curry at The Forester’s – Yoxall

It’s that time of the year that we like choosing a countryside pub to celebrate my auntie’s Kate birthday.

She is 81 now and still a pretty hectic woman, but birthday meals on a day out somewhere outside of Birmingham are what we like most to do together. So, we always go for lunch in a special location.

This time, we didn’t go that far visiting The Forester’s Arms on the outskirts of Yoxall in Staffordshire; a traditional country pub that likes to describe its food as “ simply good home-cooked food”. Sounded pretty good to me.

We decided to book a table in advance due to the popularity of this place on weekends.

And we did the right thing, even with the place was empty when we arrived, it had lots of tables reserved. And the pub was packed minutes later.

The staffs were very warm and friendly, and the owners were around as well, which makes me feel in a welcoming atmosphere straight away. The lady who served us, who I believe is called Sandra, ensured that everything was okay.

The Forester’s has an elegant decor with lots of portraits and paintings on the wall, and comfortable seats in a cosy dining space with plenty of room.

There is always a special menu for the day, and they cater quite well to all types of eaters. Checking the website first, I really loved their vegetarian and gluten-free menus, and I was determined to try the veggie curry.

We skipped the starters, and I wanted to try the Sweet Potato and Chickpea curry with rice and mini Naan. I’m always skeptical about curries because it usually comes in large portions. This one was served as I wanted, in what I call a perfect portion. I knew I would fit some desserts later.

Loved the curry. It was well seasoned, spiced balanced, and the rice was cooked with perfection as well. They got it right. One of the best veggie curries I ever experienced.

My husband asked for Duck with New Potatoes, plum sauce, and seasonal veggies. It was a special of the day, and he fully enjoyed it. While our birthday girl went for the Homemade Cottage pie.

We all agreed the meal was excellent. Food was served warm and impeccably done. It suits well the description of “simply good home-made food” indeed.

You get exactly what was promised to be served! I had a glass of prosecco to celebrate our excellent choice of place to eat in that area. Of course, celebrating auntie Kate’s birthday as well.

We had room for desserts too. So, I asked for a Lemon Meringue pie with vanilla ice cream. I think the meringue could be a bit fresher, but overall, it was good. The pie itself was delicious.

My husband asked for the Bakewell Tart with Custard cream, while auntie Kate had a classic Creme Brulee. All desserts were beautifully presented.

We all agreed to rate the whole experience of eating at Forester’s as excellent. We couldn’t get it more right. This pub is a gem, and I do recommend you stop by in case of being in that area.

Food is an affordable, pleasant atmosphere and superb service.
