Choose your deck

Like regular cards, tarot cards also have four suits. Except that there are fourteen cards in each suit. Also, there is a special suit known as a trump suit of 21 cards, which is combined comparable to the joker in regular cards. The foremost step to becoming a tarot reader is to choose your deck of cards.

There are special decks designed for the purpose of divination. All of these cards typically have number cards (ace to ten), a jack, a queen, a king, and a knight. So it comes to four face cards and ten number cards, also known as pip cards.

There is yet another card known as the fool. Making a total count of 78 cards in a deck. Cards with occult symbols on them are typically used for psychic purposes.

Know your Cards

Now that you have chosen your deck of cards, you need to know what each card means. There are no documented meanings of the cards.

When deciding where to start in the realm of psychic readings, Sheila Moon from Psychic2Tarot says that it’s essential to keep in mind that psychics are spiritual advisers and should not claim to predict the future. Flip your cards one by one.

Spend a few minutes on each card. Let yourself connect to your inner voice. Listen to what your heart says or feels when you see a card. Familiarise yourself with what each card signifies. Each card may be telling a story of its own. Well, tarot reading is a game of spirituality and not predictions as already mentioned.

Practice Daily

Now that you are familiar with the method, you need to master it. As we all know, it takes a lot of practice to master anything. Similarly, you should practice with the cards daily.

At the start, it may take some time to understand how it works. You may have to spend 5-10 minutes on a card, initially.

With time, you will gain speed. When you start to get what a single card is trying to tell, you should begin with combinations. Usually, a reader uses the three-card method when performing divination. Combine three cards, and then again try to fill the blanks.

One thing that you should always keep in mind is to separate minor and major arcana. Major arcana are the trump cards plus the fool, which are believed to be of greater importance.

Major arcana reveals greater secrets and minor arcana reveals lesser secrets. Whenever you draw cards, make sure you draw a mixture of both.

The imbalance between the major and minor arcana is what makes this occult practice so exciting.
