What are we all watching this summer?

What are we all watching this summer_

What were you locked into over lockdown? Thanks to being stuck in our homes for the majority of our time since March, we’ve all been watching a lot more TV than perhaps we might usually do.

So, from new TV to classic movies, here we take a look at what we’ve been watching over the last few months and what you should be catching up on if you’ve missed them. Pizza and popcorn at the ready!

Normal People

Based on Sally Rooney’s acclaimed novel, this TV adaptation caused something of a stir when it came onto our screens in April, thanks to its frank and frequent love scenes.

The tortured love affair between the two main protagonists, Marianne and Connell, kept us coming back for more week after week. We couldn’t get enough of the beautiful shots of Dublin, Marianne’s fringe and Connell − his chain even received its own Instagram account.

Harry Potter

More time on your hands is the perfect excuse to revisit old classics. And lots of us took the opportunity to relive the adventures of Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron and the gang.

Whether they’re cheering on their team at Quidditch or doing battle with He Who Must Not Be Named, we love everything about magical world of Hogwarts, and dare we admit it, we may have practised our own spells, too!

I May Destroy You

A TV show unlike anything that’s been made before, I May Destroy You certainly gave us plenty to talk about over Zoom.

Written by Michaela Coel, who also played the lead character, Arabella, it explores the issues of consent, friendship, mental health, racism and female empowerment over twelve heart-stoppingly brilliant episodes – each one a different pace and structure from the last.

Arabella’s bedroom played a big part in the series – it was where she hung out with friends, had sex, cried and wrote her book. When it comes to bedroom goals, although it was very messy, it certainly celebrated bedrooms as places where all the action happens!

Thelma and Louise

This feminist classic never feels old, even though it came out almost 30 years ago. The iconic tale of revenge and living life to the full is a loud celebration of the strength of female friendship.

It earned both Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis Academy Award nominations for Best Actress and introduced the world to Brad Pitt, with whom its love affair is still going strong. Grab your best bud, crack open a beer and watch it together.

Little Fires Everywhere

Based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 novel, it stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington as two mothers from completely different backgrounds who strike up a friendship.

But a custody battle for a Chinese-American baby threatens to destroy their worlds. The show deals with themes of class, race and prejudice and has provided many virtual water-cooler moments, as well as spearheading a 90s fashion revival.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom

When it got rainy outside, lots of us enjoyed hunkering down with a classic adventure film like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Thousands of creepy crawlies, crocodile-infested waters and daring escapes are perfect fodder for a Sunday afternoon camped out on the sofa. Just make sure you don’t use the infamous dinner scene as inspiration for your snacks!

With all the TV we’ve watched recently, can you guess the bedrooms of these famous characters, with this quick brain teaser from Hammonds? A clue, some are mentioned above!
