Keto-Friendly Wine For the Holiday Season

Several things are important to people who travel for holidays – learning about the culture, exploring the country, and enjoying wonderful local food and alcohol. And I always have the same question on my mind – Is wine keto friendly?

If you are following a ketogenic diet during your holidays, you will find this text about keto wine options quite useful.

Summer is finally here, and most of us are thrilled to go on holiday.  This year’s winter and spring, as we all know, were exceptionally challenging because of all the restrictions we had to endure, so the excitement is even greater than usual.

Travelling abroad is still sort of limited for many people as the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over yet, so we are mainly planning to visit our own or neighbouring countries.

Wine lovers, of course, also have a desire to taste all sorts of wines, especially if they find themselves in a country famous for it.  But if you are following a strict diet plan, even when you are vacationing, it can be challenging to always find things to eat or drink that won’t disrupt it.

That’s where we come in. We understand the difficulty you might find yourself in, especially if you are a wine drinker on a keto diet, and so we compiled a list of good keto wine types.

And if you are on this type of diet, you also might want to get informed about the best keto supplements

Is Wine Keto-Friendly?

Generally, when you are thinking about wine, you aren’t considering whether and how many carbohydrates it contains. But if you decide to follow a low-carb nutrition plan, you have to check everything to make sure you are getting the desired results.

So, a  lot of people wonder, “is wine keto-friendly?”.

Wine, in general, contains very little or no carbohydrates at all. Although this is considered good news, it doesn’t mean that all wines are necessarily keto-friendly.

If you are looking for keto wine, keep in mind that it needs to have a low alcohol level and none or very little residual sugar.

The type of wine that corresponds to this is a dry wine that contains about 108 calories and zero carbohydrates. Let’s take a look at this keto wine guide and see some good types of keto wine.

Examples of Keto Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon

This is one of the best and most known wines that come from France. People like it for its bold taste with a touch of oak. It is a fantastic wine for the evening whether you just drink or combine it with a delicious dinner. It accompanies well all the grilled meats, steak, etc.

Merlot

Merlot is one of the wines that should be on the list of keto for wine lovers. Merlot is known for its fruity taste, and thus, a good choice to combine with meat and fish. It is very low in carbs – on average, a glass contains only about 3.7 grams.

Sangiovese

If you go a bit more south of France, you will find less famous but equally fantastic Sangiovese, Italian keto wine. It is made with Sangiovese grapes that are most widely grown in Italy, particularly in Tuscany.

It is a savoury wine that goes well with different types of meals. A fun fact about it is that it can change the flavor depending on what you combine it with – it can be rustic or fruity.

Chardonnay

This is one of the most popular white wines all over the world. Some could even say that since people are so used to it, chardonnay became a synonym for white wine.  It is an excellent choice for warm summer evenings because of its vanilla or nutmeg flavors.

Conclusion

Whether you like red or white, it makes no difference because it is guaranteed that you will find excellent keto wine. We make a selection of some that we like the most, but in general, there are more options.

Additionally, you can also look for keto homemade wine. Have you tried some keto-friendly wine that we didn’t mention? Do you prefer red or white wine?
