Home to some of the finest cuisine, richest culture, and stunning landscapes in the world, Germany is well regarded on the traveller trail as a fantastic destination for adventures.

Regularly appearing on the list of the most visited countries in Europe, this country is abundant in museums, galleries, natural wonders, and architectural gems. One of the best things about Germany, however, is its beautiful spa towns.

Located around natural hot mineral springs, these spa towns are filled with saunas and mineral-rich pools and are great for everyone from people who are travelling for the first time to seasoned explorers.

Perfect for those who are looking for a little relaxation therapy while they explore, Germany’s spa towns are the ideal place to unwind and indulge yourself in a little pampering. Here are some of the best spa towns in Germany.

Bad Kissingen

The healing waters and natural mud of Bad Kissingen have been drawing emperors, kings, aristocracy, and politicians from all over the world for centuries.

The town has continued to uphold its reputation as a first-class health and holiday resort throughout the years, as evidenced by its vast array of beautiful parks and gardens and a range of world-class spa facilities.

It is the largest spa town in the state of Bavaria and is located on the River Saale in Franconia. Its magnificent buildings were expertly crafted by architects to impress the visiting nobility, and it has a wide selection of facilities such as climbing, ice skating, tennis, canoeing and hang-gliding.

Baden-Baden

A spa town situated on the south-western side of Germany on the north-west border of the Black Forest mountain range, Baden-Baden is a super chic destination famous for its salt and radon rich thermal hot springs.

This spa town has been a popular destination for some time and has drawn visitors from around the globe to its picturesque views, luxury treatments, and stunning architecture.

It is home to one of the oldest casinos in the world, which was regularly frequented by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and is the perfect place to explore grand colonnaded buildings and turreted art nouveau villas.

Bad Reichenhall

A beautiful town endowed with plenty of healing mineral springs as well as its famous alpine salt and alpine brine, the Bavarian state town of Bad Reichenhall is a must-see for any spa enthusiast.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains, royal gardens, and the freshest air you could possibly want, Bad Reichenhall is located at the gates of Salzburg, making it a hugely popular destination for spa seekers.

It is recommended that visitors take regular respiratory-boosting walks to take advantage of the alpine air as well as partaking in the original alpine brine inhalations from the mineral spring.

This treatment is said to strengthen the body’s defence system and airways which is why it has regularly been frequented by royalty for centuries.

Bad Staffelstein

Around 1,600 metres below the Main Valley lies a concentrated thermal brine formed from the salt of an ancient tropical sea.

This brine emerges in various places around Bavaria, but one of the best places is Bad Staffelstein. This spa town is filled with 16 indoor and outdoor pools ranging between 28 to 36 °C as well as SaunaLand, which is home to a wide range of themed saunas and therapies.

Pay a visit to the saltworks while you are in town or make a date to see one of the outdoor concerts and open-air film shows on the lakeside stage in the summer months. There are also plenty of rustic inns, family-run guesthouses and microbreweries to explore, all of which give a warm welcome to all visitors.

Whichever spa town you decide to visit, one thing is for sure – once you’ve experienced the rejuvenating and revitalising spa waters, you will know why they have been such a favourite among the aristocracy for centuries.

The rejuvenating and revitalising mineral-rich waters are a balm for the body, mind, and soul, so spending some time in one of these towns is an investment well worth making.
