Fast ways to transform any room in your home

If you walk into a room and feel that it looks tatty, it is time for a change. You don’t have to wait until you redecorate to give your house a bit of a makeover. As you will see, it is relatively easy to freshen things up.

Change your wall art

Over time, our tastes and interests change, but for some reason, many of us don’t choose to reflect this in our home – why not treat yourself to a wall photo collage that celebrates some of these changes in your life? It could be a selection of your latest travel photos or you and family members enjoying activities together. Anything you want. You just need to upload the photos and choose the type of print you want. When it arrives simply hang it up where you will be able to see it each day.

Update your soft furnishings

Next, take a critical look at your soft furnishings. The chances are you will find that you have let things get a bit out of control and ended up with items that are a mishmash of styles and clashing colors. Pick out the soft furnishings you like best and plan to keep, then order other things that will blend in with those items.

You can also buy soft furnishings to help you to cover up some of the issues you cannot yet afford to sort out. For example, a nice throw will make a tatty old sofa look ten times better.

Even switching out your cushion covers so that they all match could be a transformative but simple idea. You could also explore creating your own covers – this could be a fun autumn project for you, as you learn something new along the way, as well as getting an updated living area.

Lay some rugs

With the colder weather just around the corner, now is a good time to start making your home feel a bit cozier. Rugs are a good way to do this, especially if you have hard floors. Just be sure that the ones you order are fitted with a non-slip backing (or you can get grips separately to go underneath if necessary).

Update your lighting

The way you light a room has a big impact on what it looks like and its ambiance. As you can see from this article there are lots of little tricks you can use to improve things using lighting. In some cases, you will not even have to buy any new fixtures.

If cash is tight, tackle one room at a time and focus on repurposing, repairing, deep-cleaning, and upcycling rather than buying new items. You will be surprised by how much better you can make things look without spending very much in the way of time or money. You will probably be impressed with your newfound textile skills – this could be the start of something new, so give it a go!
