Money Saving Tips for Moving Out

Buying a property is a big decision. Probably the biggest one you will take in life. Besides documentation and all the stress with removals, you will have to think about different ways of saving money whilst moving.

But you do not need to be so hard on yourself if you prefer yourself in advance and start following simple steps before embarking on this journey.

My husband and I started preparing ourselves for this task early this year. The pandemic, I am not going to lie, has helped us to find ways of saving cash simply because we do not go anywhere. Costs with travelling and night outs are inexistent. But it is not easy just that! Here are some changes that can make all difference when moving into a new home.

Get Rid of Unnecessary Bills

Do you know the annual cost of your TV license in the UK? £157 quid. That is a lot of money if you do not watch TV. Our case.  It was gone a long time ago.

I have also got rid of any unused subscriptions and payments that I did not use to track before. You would be surprised by how much unnecessary money we spend on things that we barely use.

The next step here is cutting the landline down. I do not use the telephone since early 2000. Seriously, who does? Landline is also an expensive cost in this country. It needs to go. Save now to spend on your new property.

Do It Yourself

And speaking more about doing it yourself, consider getting quality cleaning materials as the first step towards getting a space nice and tidy. With the right set of tools within your reach, such as water fed brushes, squeegees, buckets, and scrapers, you just may find yourself in the right state of mind to start cleaning. And if it calls for it, consider checking purification systems if you’ll be dealing with really dirty spots.

If there is something that I have learnt this lockdown, is doing my own repairs when I need it. Of course, I am not talking about professional services. I still can`t do it all by myself.

But If you have a clogged sink or a leak in the bathroom, it doesn’t matter if you are looking for the best plumbers in Brighton or Birmingham, you will still need a skilled professional to solve the problem.

What about small services such as fix a cupboard or painting a fence and the walls? You can do it. It is highly recommended to start some DIY during the lockdown. It is a guarantee of time well-spent, mate.

Cut Costs on Packing

I have watched some handy tutorials on YouTube before that show us how to save space, time, and money on packing for when moving out into a new home.

You can use blankets, towels, and all kinds of soft materials to pack it properly without spending one single penny on bubble wrap. That is great! And, environmentally friendly.

Using your own vehicle to move stuff around is also another great idea. Have you seen the average cost of removal companies? Sometimes, using your own petrol and workforce can be the perfect solutions. Plus, there is always a friend or two that can help in this task.
