Uber

Uber is obviously the first to spring to mind when it comes to ride-hailing and certainly a company that has transformed life in recent years. Uber had a license to work in London turned down over concerns about driver authorisation, but this has since been overturned although it is a situation to keep an eye on because things could change again. The obvious advantage of Uber is that it is so widespread, there are many drivers available and the app is easy to use.

Bolt

Bolt is a popular alternative to Uber and offers many of the same perks. It is easy to use, you can track your driver in realtime and you can get estimated prices for your journey so that there are no nasty surprises. Additionally, there are now over 30,000 drivers in London so it should not be too hard to find a driver if you are in the capital.

Gett

Gett is only available in 8 major cities, including places like London, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Leeds. This is different to apps like Uber as it is a black cab booking app and can be cost-effective because there is no price surging during peak hours and taxi sharing can make it cheaper. This also means that it is a good app for taxi drivers to register with and you can find taxis for sale online which will allow you to take your passengers safely and comfortably to their destination.

Kapten

Kapten is a French company that launched in London in 2019 and is designed to save travellers money because the congestion charge is covered by the company. As a relatively new company, you will find that availability can be scarce, but it is sure to grow in popularity in the coming years so it is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Adison Lee

Adison Lee actually predates Uber but is considered to be a more luxury alternative. You benefit from a superior quality of service, including 4G Wi-Fi in all of its cars and phone chargers and the prices are always fixed.

These are 5 of the best taxi apps that are currently available, all of which are worth knowing about and will allow you to travel around with ease.
