How To Unwind After A Long Trip

Switching back to daily life after a long trip can be hectic. Getting back from a long, amazing trip and then realizing you have to get a bit of work done when you’re tired is not the best feeling. This article discusses several ways you can unwind after such a long trip.

Lie Down

Lying down might sound easy and common but it is one of the best ways to unwind after a long day of being on the move. Lie down on your bed or sofa and use that time to give your mind and body a well-deserved rest. This is an excellent exercise and it aids relaxation for the rest of the evening.

However, you should make sure you dedicate this time to absolutely doing nothing. Not even picking up a book, looking at your phone or scanning the room for things to clear away. Just lie down and close your eyes until your body begins to feel less tense and your mind feels relaxed.

Engage in Mindful Meditation

For some people, lying down aids in relaxing their bodies but not their mind. Such people might benefit from mindful meditation. This involves learning more about yourself and your surroundings in a non-judgmental manner. It helps you take your focus back to the present. In case you’re lying down, the things that can distract you are sounds from outside, the sound of your breathing and the feeling of the bed or sofa underneath you.

Apart from calming your mind and relaxing your body, meditation also helps lower stress levels and reduce negative emotions. To do it by yourself, begin by paying attention to your breathing. This will keep your mind keen on a simple task and act as a firm ground when your mind begins to wander. Many people get distracted easily at first but with time it starts feeling calmer and you have more control over your thoughts.

Go Out With Friends

While it might sound like a strange way to unwind, going out with friends can actually help you re-energize, especially if you’re an extroverted type of person. Being around others in a cocktail bar or at the park makes a big difference to how you feel and can build you up, especially if you have work on Monday.

Don’t rely on technology. Instead, go somewhere chic and relatively quiet where you can enjoy a drink and some good food. Remind yourself what home’s all about. Take time out.

Consider CBD

CBD products can help you relax after a long, tiring journey. CBD products are known to be effective stress and anxiety removers. This is why you should consider getting similar products from online stores like Smartshop at Zamnesia.

Have a Conversation With Your Therapist

In case travelling stresses you out, it can be a great idea to see your therapist once you get back. You don’t have to be necessarily stressed but talking to someone is a good way to unwind and start switching back to your day-to-day life.

Use Guided Imagery

While meditation helps you put yourself in the ‘here and now’,  guided imagery involves letting your mind wander off to your ‘ happy place’. This could be a peaceful garden, a white sandy beach, rolling hills or imagining yourself in that setting that relaxes you most. You need a quiet space to retreat to in order to try out this relaxing activity.

Begin by lying down or sitting in your bedroom and make sure you feel warm, safe and able to relax easily. After that, close your eyes and envision the place you feel most relaxed.

That might be the beach. If so, imagine the waves crashing against the shore, the sand between your toes or the smell of sunscreen. The more effort you put in, the more you get out of it. Thus make sure you completely give in to your imagination and let your happy place have its full effect on you.

Be Active

Even though this might sound contradicting, being physically active is usually one of the most advisable things to do in order to relax. Physical activities help silence a busy mind without much effort, unlike struggling about how to calm your mind. This encourages you to be more aware of how your body operates. In addition, physical activity activates your body’s feel-good hormones, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

For these relaxing activities, you can engage in something you derive pleasure from and can lose track of time while doing it. For some, yoga tends to be a great stress reliever while aerobic activities like swimming and running are good for reducing anxiety and giving a boost to your mood.

However, if you prefer stretching, doing some gardening or taking a walk, let your body be the mind’s guide towards that state of being relaxed.

Take A Warm Bath

There are better ways to relax than getting soaked in a warm bath for many people. Nowadays, the best thing that makes a long soak super relaxing is that you will have some alone time away from the technological devices that constantly require your attention.

By allowing yourself to switch off, you notice that being socially disconnected and unaware of everything social media updates is not a great loss after all. Some alone time in the tub, away from technology is a proper way to calm the mind and relax the body.

Getting back from a long trip can be stressful and tiring. However, the tips discussed in this article can go a long way in helping you unwind.
