4 Eco-friendly Hobbies to Take up This Summer

The temperatures are rising quickly in the UK, and it is certainly the best time to get more activity and enjoy the outdoors. It is also an excellent moment to take up new hobbies.

Taking up new hobbies can boost your mood, productivity, and creativity. Not to mention that you still have the chance of ending up choosing some more sustainable activities that are harmless to the environment.

Thinking about this, I have chosen some eco-friendly activities to inspire you to take up new hobbies this summer.

Gardening /Allotment

I do confess that it took me a while to understand the fascination of British people with gardening. It was only when I had my first visit to a garden centre that I could understand the hype about it. Gardening is a great practice!

We may not have the weather, but we can find all tools to grow our own food and herbs at home nowadays. Besides, gardening is the ultimate eco-friendly hobby. A sustainable garden uses techniques and practices that cause no harm to the earth.

Lack of space is not a problem either. You do not need a massive space to grow your own herbs. An indoor garden is a quite popular practice.

Space is not really a problem. The search for allotments has also increased considerably during the Pandemic. It is estimated to have 300.000 allotments across the country. With allotments, people are not only growing their own plants, vegetables, and herbs at these locals but also making friends and battling mental health problems. It is therapeutic and environmentally friendly, of course.

Beekeeping

Here is a hobby that everyone should learn more about it. The truth is that we need to protect our bees. We would not survive if they were all are gone. Simply as that.

Beekeeping may sound like a bit complicated hobby. But nowadays you can find guidelines on beekeeping for beginners or find organisations that can help you to learn more about these fascinating creatures and everything about beehives management.

The benefits of this practice to the environment are numerous. They produce pollination, provide food for predators, and maintain nature’s balance too.

Cycling

Cycling is probably the most sustainable activity you can consider this summer. Whether it is for commuting purposes or activity in the family, cycling is for everyone! It is healthy, affordable, and, for sure, the most sustainable mean of transport as well.

Campaigns such as cycle more have encouraged families in the UK to get their bikes out this summer. Also, this year, the campaign is helping the premature baby charity Ickle Pickles to help raise funds for the vital neonatal equipment premature babies so desperately need.

Start an Eco-blog

Yes, spreading the word about eco-living is a trend. But it is also a way of educating yourself about serious ecological issues and how we can learn better practices to stop harming our planet. For this reason, I have started my second blog a couple of months ago.

Eco Gaia is my own space to talk about ecotourism and eco-living, and it’s a space to research, learn, and practice my writing in a quiet relaxing way.
