The colder days are here to stay for a while. We start naturally to find indoor activities to keep the family cosied up and the kids entertained.
There’s nothing like a board game to cheer up kids and grown-ups. General culture, mime, strategy, educational, themed, there are games to entertain the whole family. Some games that you can enjoy not only outdoors, but also in your garden, or somewhere at home, on those days when you don’t feel like going out.
I personally love playing games at home, making jigsaw puzzles, and playing online. But also think that it is quite important finding a familiar space in a quiet and peaceful environment.
If sitting at the table or on the fluffy living room rug for a family game night, is also your thing, here are some creative and educational board games to go for this colder season.
This month I have teamed up with Jaques of London to present you some of the best games to play indoors with the whole family. Plus, use this code to have 15% off on wicked toys and board games now.
Chinese Checkers
This is a quite creative game that is probably the favourite of many of you. The Chinese Checkers is a classic board game for 2, 3, 4, or 6 players. Each player has ten pegs of one colour at one starting point of the star. The objective of this game is to occupy the star point directly opposite.
Its origins do not come from China, but from the German game Halma, which in turn was based on the American Hoppity. It’s easy and fun to play, and this one is made of real wood in a quite beautiful handmade and hand-finished board game.
Go Bang
Together with the Chinese Checkers, you also have a Go Bang on the same package. Go Bang is another classic and popular strategic game that is also known as the oldest game in the world. It is the kind of game that you play for hours and doesn’t even notice the time passing by.
Widely played in Japan, for centuries, Japanese people have played with the aim of having fun, improving their tactics and strategy skills, improving the mental functions of the elderly, and bringing people together.
A Go Bang game can last from five minutes or even more than 3 hours, this will depend on the strategy and the players, the game complexity is very low, but the strategic level is very high, and the game has no influence on luck only your intelligence and observation.
In my opinion, it is one of the most exciting and funniest board games. I do confess that this handmade and hand-finished board is one of the most delicate and gorgeous game boards you can find in the market. This minimalist and wood board with a beautiful gloss varnish finish is a quality product and a perfect gift for families and friends.
Wooden Abacus
I do confess that this one I wanted to learn for pure curiosity. As I am studying Japanese for quite a while now, I thought it would be useful to help me learn how to count. In fact, Abacus is a counting frame, not a game, but it can be a useful and educational tool for kids (and adults) to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
This gorgeous Wooden Abacus is made of 100% FSC approved wood, meaning it is sustainably sourced. It’s colourful and has a beautiful free-standing design. It fits perfectly on my work table and makes it quite easy and practical to practice counting whenever I want. I just love it!
