The Best Places to Spend Holiday in England

When it comes to holidays, England may not be the first place that springs to mind – at least not beyond a city break in London or Bath. It’s not hot like its European mainland neighbors, nor does it benefit from phenomena such as the Northern Lights like its Scandinavian counterparts. Despite this, England is a beautiful place for you to venture to on your vacation.

It’s a diverse country that is flanked by thousands of hectares of countryside, and its island status means it’s bordered by a seemingly endless coastline. So, with all this on offer, where exactly is worth visiting for an English holiday?

Cornwall

At the top of the list is Cornwall, a county in the southwest of the country. A trip to a Cornish beach will have you thinking you’re abroad thanks to the white sand and turquoise sea. Not just this, but Cornwall also benefits from slightly warmer weather than the north of the country, but do make sure you’re prepared for the Great British rain! No matter where you go in England, you’re never safe from the persistent downpours, so wellies and a raincoat are a must.

Whilst in Cornwall, make sure you indulge in a Cornish pasty – a local delicacy comprised of pastry, beef, onion, potato, and swede. They’re a favorite amongst English people, and where better to try one than in the place they originated?

Norfolk

Next up on the list is Norfolk which showcases the best of the east coast of England. Norfolk is a diverse county that spans both the countryside and the beach, and it’s here where you can really get an insight into a traditional English holiday. Norfolk is brimming with caravan parks which have always been a favorite amongst British holidaymakers, going back over 100 years! The sea in Norfolk may not be quite as tranquil as it is in Cornwall, but you’ll certainly be treated to the salty sea air and the smell of fish of trips as you walk along the piers

Cotswolds

If there’s one thing England does well, it’s the countryside, and nowhere is this better exampled than the Cotswolds. This is a dedicated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it’s clear to see why. From rolling hills to luscious meadows, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere as stunning as this. If you’re a fan of The Holiday and always envisioned staying in a chocolate box cottage, make sure your holiday is in the Cotswolds because this is where you’ll find accommodation just like that. In fact, most of the properties in the Cotswolds are picturesque like that, so if you’re looking for a cutesy break, head here.

Peak District

North England is undoubtedly one of the most scenic areas of the country and is known for its luxury forest breaks and never-ending hills. You’ll also find a lot of good hiking trails in this area, making this the perfect holiday destination if you want to get active and really explore the best of England.

There are so many ways you can explore this national park, including by foot, bicycle, or horseback. You’re spoilt for choice in terms of trails, too, with there being four main ones. The Thornhill Trail is only two miles and is ideal if you have children, whereas the Tissington Trail spans 13 miles and is more suited to avid hikers.

Summary

England may not have the warmth of other countries, but what it lacks in the heat it certainly makes up for in beauty. Wherever you choose to go on your English holiday, we’re sure you’ll have a great time.
